Our Story

From Mountains Near

To Distant Seas

Three Sisters Expeditions started with a group of young men, a backpacking trip, and the conviction that hard places make better people.

How It Started

How It Started

Three Sisters Expeditions grew out of a simple observation: young men are hungry for challenge, and most of what our culture offers them isn't challenging enough. We started taking small groups into the mountains of the Pacific Northwest — no guides, no luxury, no shortcuts — and watching what happened.

Over a decade later, we've expanded to the Rocky Mountains and the coast of Maine. The activities have grown — sailing, hunting, fly fishing, backpacking, technical climbing. But the core hasn't changed: we take young men into hard places to form them in pursuit of the abundant life.

What We Stand On

Our Values

01

Reject Passivity

We don't hand out confidence. We put young men in situations where they have to earn it. The summit means something because the climb was real.

02

Lead Courageously

Our faith isn't decoration — it's the load-bearing wall. We believe young men are made in the image of God and called to something greater than comfort.

03

Take Responsibility

We walk alongside, not in front. Our leaders are in the field with participants — sharing the miles, the cold, the hard conversations, and the view from the top.

04

Live the Abundant Life

These experiences shouldn't be reserved for those who can afford them. We work to put participants in the field who would never otherwise have the opportunity.

"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

John 10:10

Faith & Formation

Why Faith?

We're not a church program. We're not trying to be. But we are honest about the fact that our work is rooted in a conviction that young men have a purpose that transcends their circumstances — and that the wilderness is one of the best classrooms for learning to trust something bigger than yourself.

The faith element shows up in how we lead, how we handle failure, how we talk about risk and courage and sacrifice. It shows up in the verse we leave in the summit register. It shows up in the conversations that happen at mile 14 when everything hurts and quitting feels reasonable.

How We Work

Our Approach

Every program we run follows the same arc: challenge, failure, perseverance, and breakthrough. We don't protect participants from difficulty — we prepare them for it, walk with them through it, and debrief it afterward. The curriculum isn't just about outdoor skills. It's about planning, risk assessment, leadership under pressure, and the kind of character that only gets built when things get hard.

01

Planning

Participants plan their own routes, manage logistics, and own the outcome.

02

Risk Management

Real decisions with real consequences — supervised, but not sanitized.

03

Environmental Orientation

Reading terrain, weather, and water. Leave No Trace. Stewardship.

04

Mentorship

Reflection, mentorship, and honest conversation about what it means to be a man.
